Complexities of Brain, Heart and Mind- Development of Morality

NOTE: This article represents the author's own interpretations of related researches and psychological theories. This work in no way intends to agree or disagree with any research based facts and theories.

Life is an extremely beautiful journey only if we, the travelers do not complex it with the confusions raised by the availability of three unique paths and condition to choose one.

Isn't this we always do to create pressures and stresses for ownselves? Trust me, no body else is capable of troubling us to that limit as we fulfil that for our own soul.

But to get all of this into head, let us first understand the three equipments within the constitution of our body, which were barely fitted to do what we are making them do. Each of the three has a significant biological and psychological roles to play for sustenance of humanity.

Brain is a biological organ and performs almost all important functions needed to keep us living. Its immense role makes it the centre of control and coordination. It connects all body parts and coordinate them to work in a balanced manner for the body. It helps in memorizing, grasping, learning, reasoning and all other mental capacities. Heart, in a similar manner, is a completely biological organ which pumps the blood through the body and keeps one alive. The heart as they say, is nowhere involved in making you love or hate. So, in short both brain and heart have no interference in development of our emotional set. But there is something inside us which compels us to think, act and react? Have you ever experienced that there exists a guiding force who takes the charge of driving you in any uncommon circumstances? There is one which pushes you ahead and there is other which holds you back. You want to take some action but you land up doing the other. Does it ever bother you that why this actually happens?

This is where we realize the role of our third but most significant psychological entity- The Mind. The Mind basically, as I have interpreted it, owes its existence to conceptual framework rather than the physical structure. Mind is a superficial aspect which is considered to be raised out of a set of hidden and explicit emotions and thoughts of an individual. The mind creates its own space and presumes an artificial other world for the individual.

But what is its role in complexities it raise? Its basis lie in another research based fact that has been raised with time. Psychologists have propounded the existence of other aspects of brain which were initially not very acceptable with biologists and medical practitioners but later have been widely recognized and agreed. These are Sub-conscious and Un-conscious spheres within the brain. Also, these are believed to be the important components of our Mind.

The sub- conscious mind is a good man and un- conscious mind is a bad man and they both stay hidden simultaneously within the brain.

They both together with logical interpretations of brain is the foundation for PERSONALITY of humans.

Interaction of Brain and Mind to affect Personality

It is very interesting to understand the blended working of these components and then realize the role of each of these in making us.

Our unfulfilled desires, dissatisfied emotions and suppressed thoughts and wills keep burning deep into the roots of unconscious mind. The extreme phobias, fears and nervousness among infants also stay embedded here. This usually represents the dark side of our being. This side is free and has no limits of deeds. It just wants to achieve what is hidden within at any cost and rejects following the designed rules of law and society. It might also be considered to be animal within us. On the other hand, our sub- conscious mind is conditioned to represent the good, fair and just side of our existence. It does what is expected by law and society one lives in. It forms the conscience within and stops one to do anything which it has been trained to consider wrong. The contradiction between these two that is ethical sub- conscious and unethical un- conscious results into a 'ZONE OF RIVALRY' within our Mind. The fight between evil and virtuous in mind creates an opportunity for Brain to make its intelligence function and use logic, reasoning and justifications to decide the right direction. This is the most important event in new learning in terms of making new logics, using them to act in an appropriate manner and justify those actions. The incorporation of this learning into behavior results in development of MORAL BEHAVIOR which ultimately leads to some major modification in some significant aspect of Personality.

But many a times, the 'Zone of Rivalry' may affect the learning and thus personality of an individual negatively. How does this happen?

The inputs from Intelligence of one's brain may favour any of the two: Sub- conscious or Un- conscious. The past experiences may create a negative influence by creating unfavourable psychological interpretations of mind, faulty justifications of brain and thus unforgettable bitter memories. In short, the failure of previous actions in proving one right may turn negative forces of Un- conscious mind dominating and hence, enforce a negative response in a similar situation later.

The dominance of unconscious mind over subconscious one leads to exhibition of negative traits and as a result of the same, we see what we call devils. Contradictory to the same, the supremacy of subconscious mind leads to evolution of seraphs such as ideal saints and transformational leaders.

IMPLICATIONS

  1. The very young children should not be forcibly exposed to excessively fearful scenes like the ones which depict violence, abuse, black magic or ghosts. It might leave an adverse effect on their internal mindset.
  2. The psychologists have often suggested parents to display a gentle and kind conduct with children up to the age of 6, a very little strict with 6-11 and a pattern of mutual discussion should be followed during the teenage. The adverse experiences are believed to hit much lesser above that age due to considerable emotional development.
  3. The children with disputed parents who have been evident of severe arguments, serious fights or violence between parents have been observed to possess unbalance structure of mind leading mostly to powerful unconsciousness. So, it is the duty of both parents to avoid such traumatic instances for children. Both educationists and psychologists should jointly take that stake to counsel parents regarding the same.
  4. Both pre- service and in- service teachers should be well trained in identifying children with problems of non- trustworthy unconscious to resolve the issues at an early stage so that addition of criminals to the society can be stopped.
  5. The NGOs, orphanages, remand homes and other stakeholders should be guided to follow a suitable course of action to reach out to the hidden causes of juvenile actions and accordingly therapy should be arranged with experts.
  6. It is important to understand the role of past experiences in creating hidden responses which can be occasionally seen in one's expressions and behaviors. This understanding assists in acceptance of each other's negative qualities and develop the relationship mutually.
  7. The children should be allowed a reasonable freedom and should not be imposed with too much rules and disciplines. The absence of such freedom may impact hidden thoughts and emotions of children.
  8. Do not keep life bound with too many regulations. A little naughtiness should be allowed to balance the demonstration of subconscious and unconscious behavior. The same should be accepted above all stereotypes.
  9. Any psychological disorder should be taken positively and get medically treated with affection. It should not be considered an issue to mock and bearers of such disorders should not be refrained.
The motive to acquaint readers with this theory is to help them understand the role of mind in behavioral traits and development of Morality.
